Welcome to Clarus AI Field Notes
We want to keep our client-partners informed, inspired, and equipped with practical ideas they can apply to real work. This issue looks at Microsoft Copilot Cowork and the shift from asking AI for help to letting AI prepare work when a useful event arrives.

Issue 001 introduction
What is Microsoft Copilot Cowork?
Cowork can research, organize, draft, and prepare next steps across Microsoft 365. It works with information the signed-in person already has permission to access.
The practical difference is scope. A chat assistant answers the question in front of it. Cowork takes on a defined piece of work, gathers allowed context, and hands you something closer to finished.

The 90-Second Brief
The useful version, before the detail
Cowork can begin work when a matching email or Teams message arrives, including an @mention. You define the trigger and review the proposed task.
AI can prepare a routine next step without waiting for you to remember it. AI notices, gathers, and drafts while a person decides.
Pick one narrow event. Let Cowork draft a response. Keep sending, deleting, and access changes behind human review.
The 5-Minute Win
Turn one Teams mention into a prepared response
The win is a small useful result. Some weeks it may use a prompt. Other weeks it may use a setting, checklist, or short workflow.
When a Teams message mentions me and contains the phrase "customer follow-up," gather the thread and any files linked in that message. Draft a short response with the decision, owner, due date, and open question. Do not send, post, delete, share, or change access. Ask me to review the draft.
Check the result: Confirm what triggered the task, which files it used, what it missed, and whether the response saves time.
Go Deeper
The shift
AI is becoming something that notices work
Most work starts because a customer sends an email, a teammate asks a question, or a document changes. Cowork moves the starting point from "you remember and ask" to "AI prepares and you review." That change can be more useful than a faster chatbot.
Clarus take: Let AI remove one small piece of remembering. Do not turn the first pilot into an autonomous employee.

Trusted information
Automation makes source quality more important
A chatbot using an outdated procedure is annoying. An automated task that repeats the error is a larger problem. Microsoft lets organizations mark selected SharePoint sites as authoritative so Copilot Search can prioritize them. The feature helps only when those sites contain current, owned information.
Clarus take: Clean up first. Automate second.
More AI to manage
Businesses will use more than one AI platform
Organizations will have Microsoft agents, specialist tools, third-party models, and experiments built by individual teams. They must know what exists, what data each system can reach, what it may do, and who owns it.
Agent 365 can synchronize inventories from platforms that include Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock, Google, Databricks, and Salesforce. The detail points to a larger truth: AI governance is becoming ordinary IT management.
Clarus take: Inventory agents before expanding their authority.

Beyond Microsoft
AI is changing what people can attempt themselves
AI may change job boundaries before anyone changes a title. A useful rule still holds for AI-assisted writing: AI may help brainstorm, draft, and proofread, but the named author must stand behind every idea and sentence.
Clarus take: If your name is on it, understand it and be willing to defend it.

Local AI
A model a business can keep is moving toward the workstation
The direction supports a hybrid future. Cloud AI can handle demanding or flexible work. Retained models can support selected cases that need offline operation, stable versions, lower latency, or continuity. Local does not automatically mean private, secure, inexpensive, or easy to support.
Clarus take: Preserve the option. Test the exact workload and hardware before making promises.
